Highs and Lows

Shout to the Amar for coming back out to Phoenix – spending a great weekend with the bois. Took a lengthy scenic drive early Saturday afternoon into the Four Peaks Wilderness, and set up camp just upon the saddle overlooking all of the valley and Roosevelt Lake. Everything was wonderful.

Then a wild storm came in around midnight – first rain, then sleet, then…lightning. We were forced to pack up at 3am and hustle back down the 18 mile dirt road – tucked slightly into the mountain ridden with hairpin turns. Shout to mother nature.

Joe the Bone in AZ

Joe “Michael” Bones Ruggieri came on out to Arizona to move he…..hold my beer…..visit the desert state. Bones got in late on Friday, met up with Big Steve to pound the pavement, and met him at the house around 5pm for First Fridays.

Walked the arts district, went to dinner Clever Koi with Bryan and Angie, and had a few more with Nick in the downtown area. Met some MLM’rs and toured the best of the speakeasys.

Woke up early Saturday morning to drive up to Sedona. Got to the Devil’s Bridge Trail around 11am to venture on the 8 mile round trip hike. Beautiful weather, great conversation, and God’s red rocks.

Had a drink in Sedona, drove the wondrous Highway 87 to Flagstaff and checked into our hotel. Had an always fantastic dinner at The Tinderbox.¬†Walked around outside, caught the Christmas lighting, and went to bed early to hike Fatman’s Pass early Sunday morning. Ended the night at Angry Crab – love that guy Joe!

Thanksagaingiving 2017

Home is where the heart, family, cold, shitty and driving is. Took a bad flight on Tuesday, got in to Newark Airport around 5:30pm. If you’ve ever landed there near that time, you recognize what a bad idea that is.

Got some drinks that evening in NB with Lauren and John, met up with Nate for breakfast on Wednesday morning. Made it to New Brunswick for dinner with the MC for Katie’s bday, followed by a stop at Old Bay like norm.
Went to bed pretty early Wednesday night – a sure sign I am old – and got up early Thursday to drive to Boston. Got to the Burdick’s around 2pm, ate a great dinner, went to the movies (I fell asleep), and got to bed early. Woke up to take the 8am train into Boston from Hopkinton, and bounced around from Back Bay, to the Bruins game at the Garden, to Southie for lobster rolls at Row 34, to some ping pong at Blazing Paddles. Always a fantastic experience being home with the ones you love.

30th Surprise!

Give it up to Lauren for planning what has to be one of the best birthday surprises of all time. John had just turned 30 and thought Lauren would be taking him to a dinner. When they took exit 13 to Newark Airport, she handed him his ticket, he realized his bag was already packed, and they were off to Phoenix.

Landed late Thursday, stayed in, and those two took off early Friday for a Sedona/Grand Canyon bus tour. Got back late Friday and we ventured downtown for a few drinks and ended at Welcome Diner.

Had a blast on Saturday hiking around Papago Park – beautiful scenery and things to do/climb on. Then went to Scottsdale for the Old Town tour of shopping/eating/drinking.¬†Such a great time with the best friends in the world. They were so gracious and excited to take in all that AZ has to offer. Had a few tacos at the world’s best La Santisima and dinner/celebratory champagne at Tuck Shop. Sunday was spent in Tempe, again hiking, checking out my office, catching some football, and walking the waterfront. Come back!
